ABOUT

Ready. Set. Psyched.

One of the best things about being a coach is getting to know other people on a deeper level. So let me share a little about myself.

HI, I'M COACH "B"

Mental health is an everyday adventure in living. The goal is to be the best possible YOU! It's  about using your strengths to minimize your perceived weaknesses. I'm here as your guide, instructor, advisor, and cheerleader. My goal? That's easy: to help you get  prepared, and to execute your plan to become the best YOU you can be!

MY STORY

Husband. Father of four. Son. Brother. Uncle. Cancer survivor. Former college athlete.  Our roles help  shape our personalities and our relationships. They provide a guide for how we show up in the outside world.

I chose psychology because of a desire to help those who  struggle with everyday issues. My clinical training included counseling in mental health centers, a juvenile detention center, and an inpatient hospital and residential treatment facility. I found an emphasis on pharmacological intervention and "quick fixes" that seemed to mask problems rather than address them. I wanted to concentrate on the positive side of psychology and the importance of prevention.

As a result, my education took me to the United Kingdom. Programs in the UK focus more clearly on prevention, mental toughness, and the use of physical activity to build on individual strengths and to lessen the impact of negative thoughts and behaviors. As a result, I ended with two Master's degrees: one in Clinical Psychology and the second in Sport Psychology.

We all hit bumps in the road and we don't want to let  them derail us. I integrate both my clinical and sports training to help your child and your family identify the triggers and thought processes that keep you from meeting your goals and living your best lives. We work together to identify, develop, and maintain sound, positive behaviors. Life is an adventure: let's make it a positive, mentally healthy one together!

WHY DO I COACH?

It isn't always easy. As an athlete it was humbling to realize just how much my performance was influenced by my thoughts. There is a power of the mind that can be a huge asset if harnessed and trained. The reverse is also true. Negative thoughts can impact our behaviors and affect our environment and relationships.

We are surrounded by negativity and it is important that we understand and identify how much that negativity can affect us.

After being diagnosed with cancer, I experienced the negative effects of faulty thought processes. I let those negative thoughts impact each day. It was going through that struggle that showed me how powerful controlling my own thought processes could affect my mood, my outlook, and my most important relationships.  I learned to focus on my strengths and tame the negatives.

Each of us has the capacity to live a mentally healthy life. Sometimes we just need a helping hand, an outside resource, a personal cheerleader and instructor to see that future and help us travel the path to get there.

I succeed as a coach and a teacher when you become the best you can be.

MY MISSION

To empower you.

This is about helping children, families, and you become emotionally strong, personally resilient, and capable of leading a life of positive self-fulfillment.

I believe that by refocusing on individual strengths, ambitions and abilities that are currently being underutilized I can help tackle your self-doubt, regain control of the everyday struggles and turn those into an increase in your self-esteem, confidence and determination to dominate your everyday world.
